Tribute to Nancy Boyle

Nancy Boyle has been a much loved person in her life. She was adored as a daughter to Hector and Kate  – her mum and dad. She was born on the 28th of May 1944 and was a beautiful baby and was to grow into a very pretty young girl. She was brought up with her siblings at Linthouse Buildings and Tuercherhill.  Her brothers were Hector, Billy and Chic and her sisters were Grace and Sadie. She is survived by her sister Grace.

She went to ElderPark School and the Govan High and was always known for her good looks. From an early age she loved to dance and music was something that she enjoyed all throughout her life – especially Elvis and Country western.

Nancy was an outgoing girl and always had lots of pals among them Cathy and Dorothy,  who have remained good friends throughout her life. In her early days she was known as Wee Na of the Govan Meds.

When Nancy left school she worked at the Boot factory in Shieldhall Road and at 19 was married to John Boyle.

In her life, Nancy was blessed with her three daughters Angie, Lyn and Karen who all loved their mum. The girls have been at the centre of her life. She was always there for them – in times of happiness and times of sadness – they could turn to her for advice and help and she was forgiving and loved them unconditionally.

She was one of life`s givers and found it hard to receive things because she didn`t realise her own worth. The girls are all so grateful to their mum for all that she did for them and not only for them but for their pals as they were growing up. Nancy`s house was an open house and all the pals were welcome and they used to say to the girls – You`ve got a cool ma!

But Nancy was no pushover and she could be strict when she needed to be and when she had to she didn`t mince her words.  On occasions she had to remind them who was boss by saying…I`m the mother here so you`ll do as I tell you!

She was further blessed with her grandchildren Edward and Ryan who were both very special to her and she was also like a granny to Daniel and Kate and she had a great bond with them. Daniel was her wee angel.

Children and young people were to play a big part in her life and she was also close to her nieces Laura, Grace and Susan and her great nieces Gracie and Ella and her great nephews Jayden and Jordan who loved to go the Boyles on a Thursday evening.

This was her world, loving and caring for her family and for many more that could be mentioned. She was never happier,  than when she was baby sitting for the family and she had the colouring book out with her children and they coloured in pictures together for hours.

But she had a special bond with her grandson Edward. Edward enjoyed going places with her – especially to the Pavilion Theatre.  She looked forward to the shows – especially Sidney Divine and the family fondly remember how Edward pulled the short straw to go to Daniel O` Donnel  – But he loved to go and keep his gran company.

Nancy was always a hard worker and had many jobs in her life laterally working at Kinning Park Nursing Home. She enjoyed her many trips down to her cousins in Manchester and James and Marion were frequent visitors to her home at Carsaig Drive. The girls will fondly remember their mum as being a horder – collecting all sorts of things.

Sadly Nancy took unwell at the end of November and she battled with her stroke and heart condition. Throughout it all, she remained the Nancy that her family knew and loved right up to the end. She had her personality, determination and most importantly her love for all her family. She was able to say her farewells to them all personally. During that time she still sang her songs and the family had their record sessions with Nancy in hospital,  as they sang her favourites together.  She was lovingly cared for by all her family and also the staff at SGH ward 56. On the 16th January,  she lost her battle in this life as she slipped into the presence of God.

I would like to share some thoughts that people have said about Nancy and which have been on facebook……

“My favourite memory of fancy Nancy was when Elvis’ song burning love came in the golden girls years ago, I`ve never seen her move the way she was that night, she rocked Kincraig St”.

Today we have paid tribute to a special lady who was loved by so many people. Her grandsons Edward and Daniel are going to do a sponsored run – in memory of their gran on the 9th March and proceeds of the sponsor will go the heart and stroke foundation – so if you want to sponsor them, you will be able to catch them later.
